How it works

Visiting the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is not most drivers’ idea of fun. To save you time, we've created an extensive database of automotive-related scenarios to include whatever you might need to know before your visit. Ellie, our virtual DMV assistant, converses with you and then searches that database to assist you with your particular situation, considering your goals, age, driving history, etc. This is just like talking to a real person at the DMV, only without lines!

Official information

The core of our database includes the same official information that your state's DMV provides on their website. We don't collect any sensitive personal data such as your last name, Social Security number, or email address.

What kinds of questions can the DMV Assistant answer for me?
Questions related to applying for, renewing, or exchanging your driver's license or instruction permit for cars, motorcycles, or commercial motor vehicles (CMVs). Like a clerk at the DMV, our virtual assistant will ask you a few questions to determine what you need to do next. Depending on your answers, she will provide a personalized report and guide you through the whole process. If you're applying for a new license, for example, she'll tell you which documents to take to the DMV, how to apply for both the knowledge and driving tests, and what fees to pay.
Where do you get the information?
We've studied each state's licensing laws, driving manuals, and official DMV websites extensively to bring you all the information you need in one place. We regularly monitor those sources for changes and update our database as they change.
Do I need to provide any personally identifiable information?
No. We won't ask you for your address, last name, driver's license, or any other sensitive data. Since the requirements for married individuals may differ from those for singles, we do need to ask about your marital status to be able to provide relevant advice. Age is another critical factor for the DMV, so we ask for your birth date. We do ask for your first name only so that Ellie, our virtual DMV assistant, will have a way to address you. You can use a fake name if you prefer; we won't tell her! 🙂
